Join Me in the fight against Cancer and I’ll run a mile for you!

As you may know, I’m running Grandma’s Marathon on June 16th, 2012 for the American Cancer Society DetermiNation team.  The first 26 people to donate to the cause, will get a mile of the race dedicated to them (direct link here)!  Hurry spots are already filling up fast.

Note that not only am I offering up the dedication of a mile to you, I also have lots of other ideas to help you – or to make me look like a fool.  Some of my ideas can be found here.

All the details can be found at www.andylohn.com.

You can make a donation here.

By popular demand, here’s my hair before, during and after the Twin Cities 2010 marathon – thanks to Medtronic coworkers raising $500 for ACS.

logo_plunge_bearOn March 3, 2012 I will be jumping into a hole in the ice in Lake Calhoun to raise money for the Special Olympics. One item on my bucket list will be crossed off – I don’t think I want to get good at this, but I do want to try it.

The big reason we are doing this is to raise money for the Special Olympics, this has always been one of my favorite charities.  I love sports and competing in anything – this organization gives people with disabilities the opportunity to experience the thrill of competition and the fun of learning a skill and working on a craft.

This is where you come in.  I need your help raising money.  If you wish to donate to the cause, you can do so here.

What – Jumping in a hole in the ice.

Why – I’m still not sure, Tracy tweeted something about not knowing if he should do it this year, I responded that with these temperatures, this would be an easy year to do it.  The next thing I know…

The Convincer

So I’m out in the garage the other day and a van pulls up and stops by our mailbox.  A few people get out and one lady starts walking down the driveway to talk to me.  The lady explains that they are shooting a movie and was wondering if they could take a look and potentially get a shot of our lake from our back yard.  I warn them about the dog mess, but they don’t mind.  I’m thinking it’s some theater class or a church group out to shoot something small, so I say sure.

The Convincer 057

One of the guys gives the lady a nod and I shrug my shoulders and say sure.  He then tells me that he’s going to call the other van and they will come.  Well the other van was a moving truck and there was at least 8 other cars and one more catering truck.

The movie is called The Convincer – here’s the link to the IMDB page.  It’s got Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Lea Thompson and Billy Crudup in it.

Here’s a couple of articles about it:

A Collection of Funny Links

I’ve been saving a few links thinking that I might post something about them. Well here they are in one post – they are all safe and a safe subject to talk about….

Don Majkowski Demands to be Reinstated as Packers Quarterbackvia SportsPickle.com

“Former Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Don Majkowski has entered in a bitter dispute with his former organization, admitting he is “guilty of retiring too early” 12 years ago, while demanding he be reinstated as the team’s starter or given the opportunity to play elsewhere.”

The iPod name history (it does not stand for international pod and it’s not funny unless you call an ipod an international pod just for fun):

“The name iPod was proposed by Vinnie Chieco, a freelance copywriter, who (with others) was called by Apple to figure out how to introduce the new player to the public. After Chieco saw a prototype, he thought of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey and the phrase “Open the pod bay door, Hal!”, which refers to the white EVA Pods of the Discovery One spaceship.[5] Apple researched the trademark and found that it was already in use. Joseph N. Grasso of New Jersey had originally listed an “iPod” trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in July 2000 for Internet kiosks. The first iPod kiosks had been demonstrated to the public in New Jersey in March 1998, and commercial use began in January 2000, but had apparently been discontinued by 2001. The trademark was registered by the USPTO in November 2003, and Grasso assigned it to Apple Computer, Inc. in 2005.[7]

Finally – the reason for the internet – my hero Bubb Rubb and Lil Sis – My favorite part is when they almost hit a parked car, then run a stop sign.

Fifteen Posts in 15 Days

Alright – it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this thing, so to get me back to thinking about things like this that are important, I’m going to start with 15 posts in 15 days. I’m not sure what they will be about, but by 8/12/2008 – there will be a post a day.
