Photo of the Day July 2011 – Kids Version

I took a Photo of the Day – of the kids, each day this July. It’s the POTD Kids Version 2011.  I didn’t make it as big of a deal as April 2010 Photo of the Day, and the theme was the kids.

Here’s the summary:

  • I took 1055 pictures
  • 2 days I took only 2 photos
  • July 4th I took 176 – lots of firework
  • I averaged 34 pitures per day.
  • I have a new favorite of each of the kids.

Here’s a link to the full slide show.

30 for 30 – April All Stars

30 for 30 – Summary

It was a heckuva month. Here are the numbers:

  • I took 1291 total pictures – 8 Gb of disk space.
  • One day I took only 5 photos and used the first one I took (April 21st).
  • One day I took 98 and still wasn’t happy with the lighting.  (April 3rd).
  • I averaged 43 photos per day.

Here are the photos in a full screen slide show:

The beauty part of this is that I usually keep a <<MonthName>> All Star Album for the photos I really like.  I usually get about 10 to 25 per month – April All-Stars have 84 and we didn’t even travel anywhere.  I’ll put that album up later this week.

Even after 30 days – I have ideas for pictures that I haven’t used.  My inital plan was to get one portrait of Jake, Abbie, Erika, Maggie, Adrian and Nala, have 6 black and white pictures, have 6 pictures about running, take 6 food photos and then have 6 wild cards, but I knew that wasn’t going to work out after about day two.  I didn’t publish any food shots.

So thank you for looking, sorry about the bad ones – I warned people from the beginning.  I am going to buy myself a camera bag as I told myself if I did all 30 days, that was my reward.  I did get a little more addicte6d to photography, so I’m going to have to change up the Photo of the Week somehow….

POTD – #30 – The Driveway

POTD_30 Driveway

The pedals are falling from the flowering crab as April is nearly over.

How: f18, shutter speed 1/10 s – the branches are supposed to be blurry as it was windy, but I didn’t have a tripod, so I couldn’t get too slow.

POTD – #29 – Nala

POTD_29 Nala

Nala out in the grass – I initially planned one photo of everyone in the immediate family – including pets.  I got another good shot of her and I was satisfied with it, but there was a better photo that day, so it didn’t make the cut.  Anyway, I didn’t want her to not have a day.

How:  f5.6 ISO 400 – can’t go wrong.

POTD – #28 – Abbie on Pink

Abbie with the flowering crab tree in the background.

How: f5.6 ISO 400 – I laid on the ground to get the tree in the background and had her stand in a shadow.

I paddled out to see the pelicans today.

POTD – #26 – Tulips

There are three red tulips in our front garden that the light hits in the evening.

How: 50 mm lens at f1.8.

POTD – #25 – The Backpack

POTD_25 Backpack

Jake, Erika, Maggie and Adrian went to the dog park today.  Jake loves riding in the backpack.  Note I got this idea from the cover of The Moment It Clicks.

How: In Av mode, set the aperture to f14 at ISO 400.  I tried lower apertures, but they didn’t look as good.

POTD – #24 – Running Shoe

POTD_24_Running Shoe

Erika ran by this morning – alright she ran by about 8 times as I dialed in this shot.

How: Had Erika stand on a spot on the street.  On a tripod, autofocused on her shoe, then switched the camera to manual focus mode to keep it focused on that spot.  Set the camera to Tv mode and set it to 1/25th sec.
