The story of how we got engaged
We went out for sushi to Nami Restraurant in Minneapolis on February 17th to really celebrate Valentine’s day. We had a nice dinner on Valentine’s day at home and had I had one more glass of wine, I probably would have asked Erika that night – but I wanted to stick with the plan. So we went out for some sushi – I don’t even remember if it was very good because I was pretty nervous. In my cool manner, I told Erika it had been a good run being boyfriend and girlfriend (literally, that’s what I said) then asked her. She said yes and the waiter saw what had happened and brought us some champagne.
We called our families on the way home and then got up and played broomball the next day. Darci and Chris were up and we ruined their plans of announcing that Darci is pregnant! She let us have our weekend and waited a week to announce that news to the family!
Erika’s ring has my Grandma’s (My mom’s mom) diamond in it. She gave it to me a while back just in case. I asked Connie and Larry’s permission over Christmas in Colorado. I didn’t have the ring made or a plan of how and when I was going to ask her at that time, so they waited patiently for a month and a half. I found out on the drive home that the permission was only good for two months, so I just made it!

Well said Andy! Now I get to add the feminine touch and my side of the story…
First of all, when we arrived (later than planned, because we had gone cross-country skiing on a frozen lake at a house we were looking at) we were seated in a secluded corner booth that Andy had reserved. Very romantic! The sushi was, indeed, VERY good! I did notice, because I was thinking that the sushi would be the highlight of the night!! After dinner was over, Andy did start commenting on the “good run,” which caught me off guard. It was a perfect break-up line!! The next thing I know he is down on his knee with a gorgeous ring! The best way to describe my reaction was similar to the reactions on American Idol when they find out that their going to Hollywood. You know, the crying hysterical happiness we in the audience make fun of. Yep, that was me. The “yes” was definitely an easy answer to his question!!
Andy truly planned the perfect evening!
Oh yes, I thought about playing broomball with no gloves on the next morning, but it was too cold!
